FPC History
Remembering Our Past . . .
We are one of the first churches organized in Shreveport - February, 1845, with twenty charter members. We began as The Shreveport Presbyterian Church, but changed the name in 1868 to First Presbyterian Church. Our first building did not survive beyond the Civil War and in 1871 a new building was constructed where the Beck Building now stands.By 1920 we had outgrown this building and we moved to our present building in 1926.
After the depression of the 1930s and World War II, the Church's growth prompted two other major building programs. The chapel and gymnasium were added in the 1950's followed by an educational annex in the 1960s.
Our Church . . .
We are a member of the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) and a part of Presbytery of the of the Pines. We are governed within the church by a Session, whose members are elected by the Congregation.
